BIBLE-BASED DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PLAY PROGRAM (Ages 3-5)

PURPOSE:  (Agape) LOVE GOD – LOVE FAMILIES – LOVE CHILDREN

Agape Love: unconditional, self-sacrificing, self-giving love.  The love that God has for us (John 3:16) and we are to have for our “neighbor”. (Ephesians 5: 1+2)  We have a team of great teachers who love God, love children and love to teach young children.

MISSION: To glorify God through a Great Commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

The Great Commandment: “(Agape) Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.  Matthew 22:37-40

The Great Commission: “…(as you are going) go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:37-40

GOAL: To provide the best possible Biblical, developmentally appropriate, play based program to meet the intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual learning needs of each child. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14

FAMILY MINISTRY: We encourage, help and support parents as the primary educators of their children (Deuteronomy 6: 1-9).  Some LCS family activities include Parent of the Day, home visits, play days, family dinners, socials and work days.  We evaluate each child and make recommendations to parents to stay another year in nursery school or to move to the next level.  We provide a half day Kindergarten – 7 year old developmentally appropriate small group program opportunity.  We encourage parents to prayerfully consider all options and discover what is the Lord’s best for their child.  Our church is also very committed to families through activities which include a Sunday nursery program similar to LCS, Sunday school for all ages, VBS, children and youth activities, marriage and parenting classes, family breakfasts, picnics and pot lucks.

 

BIBLICAL WORLD VIEW: We view everything in the light of Scripture.  “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteous, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2Timothy 3:16.  We filter everything through the “screen” of Scripture.  If something disagrees with Scripture, we do not teach it.

THE BIBLE STORY is told continuously, every day at our children’s level of understanding during our Bible time.  Some of the “Bible Story” includes the following:  “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1)…”God created man (and woman) in His own image (Genesis 1:27)…God loves you (Jeremiah 31:3)…”For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)…The Savior is coming…

At Christmas Time; “…You shall call His name Jesus for He shall save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:27)”…Jesus grew and grew and grew…Jesus performs miracles to prove that He is God…                                                                                                                    At Easter time we will tell them about Jesus’ death and resurrection and how they can know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior (Romans 6:23)…We all pray for each child and family member that in God’s time each one will come to know Jesus as his/her personal Lord and Savior…

 

STATEMENT OF FAITH: Lighthouse Christian School is an inter-denominational ministry.  We believe that it is our ministry to meet the needs of young children and represent Jesus Christ as the center of our curriculum.  We support the God-honoring home and the church of Jesus Christ.  It is not our intention to teach any specific church doctrine but to be thoroughly Biblical in our approach to Christian education.

We affirm:

1.     That the Bible is the inspired, the only infallible and the authoritative Word of God.

2.     That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3.     The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.

4.     That for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

5.     That a person becomes justified by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

6.     The present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

7.     The resurrection of the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

 

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11).”  The Holy Spirit has lead us to many verses He wants us to help the children “hide in their hearts”.

“Be kind to each other and to everyone else (1Thessalonians 5:15).”

“Children obey your parents…”(Col. 3:20) … “submit to (obey) authority”… (Rom. 13:5)

 

TEACHERS + HELPERS RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE BIBLICAL LEARNING PROCESS:

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for of such is the Kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:14)  We facilitate the learning process by setting up a wide variety of developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for the children to choose from.  We allow for long periods of uninterrupted, child-centered play; leading to many opportunities for development through individual, parallel and cooperative play.  We constantly observe to insure that the environment is safe, interesting, fair and comfortable for all children.  We supply help if asked or needed.  Child: “Will you help me build a mountain?”  Teacher: “Does everyone have a shovel?”  Teachers and helpers should step in to help only as needed; if it looks like a child is about to:

1)    Do something to hurt another child (being unkind)  1 Thessalonians 5:15

2)    Do something to hurt themselves…

3)    Do something to damage equipment.

BIBLE BASED DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PLAY ENVIRONMENT

“God created man (woman) in His own image…”  Genesis 1:27

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”   Psalm 136:14

“…Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.” Job 37:14  (God’s children are certainly some of his most “wondrous works”!)

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them…” (Mark 10:14)

“…Fathers do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”  Ephesians 6:4

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…” (Jeremiah 29:11)

 

SCIENCE AND RESEARCH: Almost all the current, factual, scientific research and evidence supports a developmentally appropriate, play environment to best meet the intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual learning needs of young children (ages 3-5).
